8-feet long and 2-feet wide. Very not aerodynamic, the car feels sluggish around 65. I need to scoot it back a bit on the car and get the rear anchors on, I had to drive it home this way . It will however fit many pairs of skis and was a paltry $200 via Craigslist.

Yeah, get it back as far as you can.
Too many people run those long boxes where they create an air wedge against the windshield. That’s just noise, buffeting, and an mpg killer.
Nice deal! Those are like $600+ new, right?

Yes the big long box usually goes for $500+. I can get it maybe another 10” back that’s it for adjustments. I should consider a larger car one day.

It’s called the Mountaineer. I think this model is 10 years old.

Sounds like you need one of those Dieselgate buy back TDI Golf wagon specials.
No seriously do it,

Don’t ski.
Problem solved.

We run ours farther forward than I'd like but it's because of our auto opening rear hatch. I suspect for many people, it's also due to rear hatch clearance issues.

Exactly...even on long SUVs I see everyone trying to clear the tailgate.
Part of why I prefer large roofbags ;)

This is not an option.
